Missed the October PTSO Meeting? No worries! Your friendly neighborhood PTSO is here with your October Minutes in a Minute!

  • 12th Street Crosswalk Presentation:
    • Andy Shenk, a parent of a 1st grader, is looking for community support to petition the City of Cincinnati to add a crosswalk on 12th Street from SCPA gates to Washington Park. The crosswalk would improve safety for children during pick-up and drop-off. Principal Owens, the PTSO Board, and other attending PTSO members gave their approval and appreciation of Andy’s idea and work. Andy will now take the next steps to get this done. Thanks, Andy!
  • Volunteer/Fundraising Opportunities:
    • Literacy Night for K-3 is coming up later this month! The PTSO is looking for donations of Halloween candy to create goodie bags for the kids. Physical candy donations can be dropped off at the security desk. If you would like to donate money for candy instead, please go here.
    • SCPA Soiree: THE party of the year is just 45 days away! If you would like to volunteer to help, check out our Volunteer page. And GET YOUR TICKETS!
    • We are looking for parents to help with fundraising efforts for their child’s artistic majors. Reach out to Maggie Perrino if you’re interested!
    • Grounds Crew: We’re still looking for volunteers to help beautify the grounds around SCPA. We have several talented parents already involved and are getting ready to launch this new semi-regular volunteer opportunity. Sign up on our Volunteer page!
  • PTSO Support:
    • The PTSO provided dinner for teachers and staff during the last Parent Teacher Conference Night!
    • Eight picnic tables for staff and teachers are on order!
  • Principal Updates:
    • Middle School buses are still often late and/or missing pickups. Mr. Owens is in weekly communication with CPS Transportations including individual parent concerns. Please share any concerns directly with Mr. Owens.
    • Some parents still are not receiving communications. Mr. Owens is working with the IT Department to resolve this. If you are not receiving emails/robocalls, please email Mr. Owens directly.
    • Student Fees should all be migrated to Focus by the end of October.
    • Mr. Owens thanked the SCPA partners supporting academic goals including Bearcat Buddies, our Xavier University Algebra 1 tutor, OTR Tutoring, and our own Primary Teachers who come early and stay late to tutor kids.
    • October is Bullying Awareness Month. SCPA will be participating in various ways, including colorful socks day this Friday and Unity Day (with t-shirts available) on October 16.
