Did you miss the PTSO Meeting on December 3? As always, there’s lots happening at SCPA, so here’s your Minutes in a Minute. A full copy of the minutes can be found HERE.
- President Updates:
- The Second Annual SCPA Soiree was a huge success! Thank you to everyone who attended!
- Staff picnic tables are almost finished. We hope to have them ready by spring!
- The PTSO provided dinner for teachers and staff during the November Parent/Teacher Conferences
- Crosswalk Update:
- Current SCPA parent Andy Shenk has been working hard to get an additional crosswalk on 12th Street approved.
- The city has denied this request based on a conversation between city officials and a CPS District leader.
- Andy, Mr. Owens, and the PTSO are committed to following up and appealing this decision. More information will be shared when available!
- Volunteer Opportunities:
- January auditions are fast approaching! The PTSO provides comfort stations for those auditioning. We provide water, tissues, band aids, pencils, etc. We need people to work these tables. Keep an eye out for a sign up!
- Principal Updates:
- All families should have received an intent to return form. 72% of the families have filled out the form. This form is very important for future planning.
- Teresa Summe-Hass has asked for help in the new School Spirit Shop. If there are parents looking to earn some money they are looking for help 2 – 4:15 pm on Tuesday and Thursdays. Contact Teresa for more information!
- We are still seeing many K-6 students being dropped off early. SCPA does not have the staff to manage this. We are averaging 60-75 K-6 students being dropped off before school starts. Please do not drop your K-6 student off before 9 AM.
- Artistic Director Updates:
- Maggie Perrino is out on medical leave until the new year. We wish her a speedy recovery!
- The Nutcracker is happening! Winter Boards are coming up and Alumni Day is December 20th.
- General Q & A:
- Recent documentation regarding CPS Phase 2 Planning mentioned one start time for SCPA. This was recommended to the Superintendent, but it is currently only a recommendation. Mr. Owens did attend the latest meeting and feels that this may not move forward. ILT Chair Ms. Simon has formally submitted the schools concerns with this recommendation.
- Mr. Owens confirmed that the best way to get a message to your student during the school day is to call the main office and leave a message. For example, if you learn of an extra practice and your pickup time has changed, call the office and give your student’s name, grade, and the appropriate information. Clerical staff will then deliver your message in a timely manner.
